The body of a 45-year-old Mexican man was discovered by Sheriff's deputies Monday night in a shack behind a home on South Center City Parkway in Escondido, according to Lt. William Baxter of the Sheriff's Department.

A search was initiated by friends Monday night when Leandro Ledesma failed to return home from work. He was found beaten and stabbed in the upper body lying on the floor of a shack in back of an Escondido home.

Ledesma was a suspected illegal alien. Homicide detectives say there were no signs of struggle and no motive for the killing, but a knife was impounded as evidence. No suspects have been arrested and an investigation is continuing.
