Redondo Beach : Boat Hoist Reopened

After nearly five months, one of two boat hoists in King Harbor was reopened last weekend, and the Redondo Beach Marina, operator of the hoists, hopes to reopen the second one this weekend, said Shirley Thompson, a bookkeeper.

The hoists were closed in late December when the former operator, Salco Marine Services Inc., was evicted from the property. The Redondo Beach Marina, which leases the harbor property from the city, decided earlier this year to operate the hoists, but kept them closed for repairs.

The hoists will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Thompson said the marina may expand the hours during the summer.

Cost of using the hoists ranges from $15 to $25, depending on the size of the boat.
