L.A. Harbor : Honor for Anderson Asked
The Los Angeles City Council has voted unanimously to ask the state Legislature to name California 105, which is under construction, after Rep. Glenn M. Anderson (D-Harbor City).
Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores, who introduced the motion along with Councilman Michael Woo, said the tribute was appropriate because Anderson “has long been a champion of effective transportation for the greater Los Angeles area.”
Anderson, who in 1978 authored a provision that added the Harbor Freeway to the interstate system, this year was instrumental in obtaining $59 million in federal funds for port-related road improvements.
Last week, the city of Hawthorne, where Anderson once served as mayor, also voted to request that the state highway, commonly known as the Century Freeway, be named the Glenn Anderson Freeway.
