Cudahy : Police Pact to Last 3 Years

The Cudahy City Council is expected to adopt a three-year contract for law enforcement services with the Bell Police Department, a change from the past procedure of one-year contracts.

Under terms of the agreement, unanimously approved earlier by the Bell City Council, there will be no increase in cost for the first year, 1987-88. In the second year, however, there will be a 5% increase. The third-year cost will be subject to negotiation. Cudahy currently pays $1.34 million a year to the 46-officer Bell Police Department.

The Cudahy council is expected to approve the new contract during its regular meeting June 1. A subcommittee of the council, which included Mayor John Robertson and Councilman Joe Graffio, has given tentative approval.

“The three-year agreement brings stability to the whole issue of law enforcement service in Cudahy, assists us in our financial planning and finally puts to rest the unfounded rumor that we were going to discontinue our local services,” Robertson said. Cudahy has contracted with Bell since 1974 for police services. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department previously provided police services.
