The defense rested its case in Green Bay, Wis., in the sexual-assault trial of James Lofton after presenting eight witnesses in the afternoon on behalf of the National Football League player.
The case could go to the jury as early as today.
Prosecutor Lawrence Lasee finished his case after calling five witnesses.
Lasee told the court he may have rebuttal witnesses, which would delay the presentation of final arguments and jury deliberations.
Before Lasee made that announcement, Brown County Circuit Judge Alexander Grant speculated that arguments could be concluded by noon Friday.
