Countywide : DeCinces to Hit Homers for the United Way
California Angels third baseman Doug DeCinces is the Orange County United Way’s honorary campaign chairman for 1987 and will raise money by hitting home runs.
Ten large Orange County businesses have agreed to contribute $100 to the local United Way for every homer DeCinces hits this season.
A United Way spokesman said the money raised through this program will be used to pay for drug abuse programs for teen-agers.
David W. Carroll, area vice president for Pacific Bell, is this year’s campaign chairman. Last year, the Orange County United Way raised $16.5 million for 122 local nonprofit social service agencies.
