SUMMER STADIUM SHOWS : BOB DYLAN TO TOUR WITH GRATEFUL DEAD

Bob Dylan will team with the Grateful Dead on July 26 at Anaheim Stadium as part of a series of summer stadium shows by the two veteran rock attractions.
The format of the shows will be similar to Dylan’s 1986 tour with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, combining separate sets by each act with segments in which the Grateful Dead will back Dylan, according to a tour source who asked not to be identified.
Although Dylan and the Grateful Dead are longtime admirers of each other’s music and have appeared on the same concert lineup before, they have never publicly performed together.
After preliminary rehearsals earlier this year to test the waters for some collaborative concerts, Grateful Dead guitarist and singer Jerry Garcia told The Times, “There started to be a certain chemistry there that was like something . . . else. It wasn’t us, and it wasn’t him. It was all of us together, and it was just starting to become something.”
The tour reportedly will begin July 4 in Foxboro, Mass., and includes stops July 10 in Philadelphia and July 12 in East Rutherford, N.J. The only other West Coast dates are believed to be July 19 in Eugene, Ore., and July 24 in Oakland.
According to a recorded message on the Grateful Dead’s concert hot line, (415) 457-6388, mail orders are currently being accepted for the West Coast shows. Tickets for the Anaheim Stadium performance will go on sale at ticket outlets on June 14, according to the hot line.
Officials at Anaheim Stadium and Avalon Attractions, which is promoting the concert, would not confirm information regarding ticket sales.
