California, the regional general interest magazine, said the Australian investor was Consolidated Press Holdings Ltd., owned by magnate Kerry Packer. California President Alan E. Bennett declined to say whether Consolidated had acquired financial control, but sources familiar with the magazine said Bennett needed capital. Consolidated publishes more than 50 magazines in Australia.
