Cudahy : Recall Petitions Submitted

Recall petitions with 989 signatures against Mayor John O. Robertson and 948 against Councilman Joseph Graffio were turned in Wednesday at Cudahy City Hall. The petitioners were given 60 days to gather 779 valid signatures or 25% of the 3,116 registered voters in the city of 20,000.

Gerald Caton, city clerk and city manager, has up to 30 days to certify the validity of the signatures. If there are enough valid signatures, the council must schedule an election within 120 days.

Recall organizers stated in the petitions that they launched the effort because the councilmen “are insensitive to the wishes of the majority of the people who elected you.” The petitions were organized by Jene Oliver and Steven Carrigan, Caton said.
