A booster could face up to five years in prison for paying a student-athlete to attend a university under a bill approved by the Louisiana state legislature.
Rep. Raymond Jetson, D-Baton Rouge, said that the criminal penalty is needed in light of recent football recruiting scandals at Southern Methodist and allegations that led to the suspension of Tulane University’s basketball program.
