Costa Mesa : Orange Coast Is Top in Number of Transfers

Share

Orange Coast College tied with another community college for the most students transferring to state colleges and universities, the California Post-secondary Education Commission reported. It was the seventh time in the last eight years that Orange Coast College has led in transfers.

The commission said that Orange Coast tied with Diablo Valley College of Pleasant Hill for top transfer honors. Each of the community colleges sent 1,009 students to the California State University or University of California systems this year.

According to the commission, Orange Coast sent 802 students to Cal State campuses and 207 to UC campuses.

Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine are major transfer destinations of the OCC graduates, the state report showed.

Robert L. Hoeppner, Orange Coast Colleges official, said: “The 1,009 transfers reflect only those who transferred to UC and CSU last fall. Our total transfer figure is probably at least a third larger than that. The report does not take into consideration those who transferred during the spring and summer.

“Though it’s difficult to come up with a precise figure, it’s probably safe to say that approximately 5,000 former OCC students are currently attending four-year colleges and universities--both private and public--within the state of California. Many other former OCC students are attending colleges outside the state.”
