A woman airlifted by the U.S. Coast Guard from a Soviet freighter in the Bering Sea was reported in satisfactory condition after undergoing surgery to remove her appendix, a spokeswoman at Anchorage’s Providence Hospital said. Valentina Prudnikova, 29, was flown to Anchorage from the 400-foot Grigoriy Aleksandrov, which had radioed Saturday for help off the Aleutian Island of Attu.
