Israeli forces swept out of their security zone in southern Lebanon with columns of tanks and shelled more than a dozen villages after 200 Shia Muslim guerrillas staged their biggest attack ever against the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army, officials and other sources said. Security sources and radio reports indicated that at least 16 people were killed and nearly 50, including six Israeli soldiers, were injured in the guerrilla attacks and shelling. The fighting began before dawn when the fundamentalist Shias stormed three outposts manned by the Israeli-backed Christian militiamen just north of the Israeli security zone in southern Lebanon, Israeli officials said.
