A staff director and six of seven anesthesiologists at Boston City Hospital are not professionally certified and half are dentists, a practice criticized by a national association, according to a published report. “I think it stinks,” Dr. Howard Zauder, president of the Chicago-based American Society of Anesthesiology, told the Sunday Boston Herald. “These dentists are not qualified by background to do this.” The newspaper also said resident doctors who work with and train under the uncertified anesthesiologists have repeatedly complained and last year threatened to quit over the issue.
