The first tropical depression of the 1987 Atlantic Caribbean hurricane season soaked the Florida Keys on its way toward the Gulf of Mexico, where the loosely organized band of showers was a threat only to ships, the National Hurricane Center said. Small craft from Key Largo to the Dry Tortugas were advised to remain in port. The center of the depression was reported about 75 miles east of Key West, with top winds between 30 m.p.h and 35 m.p.h.
