SAN FRANCISCO — Bechtel has signed a contract to provide engineering-consulting services during design and construction of the Peace Dam in the Republic of Korea.
The Peace Dam, to be built on a northern tributary of the Han river, is intended to guard the Republic of Korea against flooding resulting from failure of a North Korean dam already under construction just upstream.
The two dam sites flank each other a few miles across the demilitarized zone that separates the two regions. The Han flows on through Seoul, a city of more than 9.5 million people.
Bechtel International Inc. will assist the Industrial Sites & Water Resources Corp.
