Bobby Chacon, former featherweight boxing champion, was granted his request to have his six-month jail sentence delayed. Chacon must begin the sentence July 6. He was sentenced for violating probation in a wife-beating case, which is three years old.

Municipal Court Judge Ann Rutherford of Oroville, Calif., agreed to the delay because negotiations are still under way between the sheriffs of Butte and Los Angeles counties over the terms of Chacon’s incarceration in Los Angeles.

Chacon was found in violation of his probation after investigators found alcohol in his home and a trace of marijuana in his urine. He was put on probation in 1984 after being convicted of beating his second wife. He has since remarried twice.
