Madlock Due to Sign With Tigers

Share

Former Dodger Bill Madlock joined the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, and the four-time National League batting champion is expected to be signed by the team today.

“I don’t know how much I should say until it’s official, but it’s nice to be somewhere,” said Madlock, who was released by the Dodgers last Friday. “I want to say this--my shoulder is fine. It isn’t bothering me.”

Madlock, 36, was on the disabled list from April 10 to May 1 after shoulder surgery. In 22 games last month, he had batted just .180, with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Madlock, a career .307 hitter in 13-plus seasons, clears waivers today. If he had been signed before then, the Tigers would have been liable for his current contract with the Dodgers.
