Syria has closed the Damascus offices of alleged Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal and ordered most of his followers out of the country, a Jordanian newspaper reported. Quoting Palestinian sources in Tunisia, where Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization is headquartered, the newspaper said the crackdown began on Monday. Abu Nidal’s group--the Revolutionary Council of Fatah--broke with the PLO’s mainstream guerrilla faction, Fatah, in 1976 and has ties to Libya. Washington blames Abu Nidal for a series of terrorist acts, including the Rome and Vienna airport attacks in December, 1985.
