READY FOR THE WORLD, BOBBY BROWN ON BILL

Two upcoming R&B; acts that appeal to the same teen fol lowing were pitted against each other Saturday on a Universal Amphitheatre bill and both responded well. Ex-New Edition member Bobby Brown concentrated on his main strengths--danceable rhythms and plenty of audience contact. Wearing a pair of red jams, knee-high socks and a tummy-baring red jacket, the young singer drew his share of frenzied screams--particularly when he invited the members of New Edition on stage for some ultra-suave dance moves on his recent hit “The Girl Next Door.’

But headliners Ready for the World proved even more appealing. The six-member group’s brand of suggestive, bedroom R&B;/pop was just what a packed house of teenyboppers had ordered. Lead singer Melvin Riley, Jr., 21, offered the kind of sexy, hip-swiveling performance on tunes like “Slide Over” that could make him a pint-sized Romeo fo1914729576
