Socialism Ruining Women, Soviet Newspaper Says

MOSCOW — Women have stopped being women under socialism, an official Soviet newspaper reported.
Soviet Culture, in a weekend commentary written by a woman, was reviewing what it described as a decline in the quality of human relationships among Russians.
“Has woman stopped being a workhorse under the conditions of socialism?” Galina Uzhova asked in the article. “On the contrary, she has long since stopped being a woman.”
Uzhova said women driven by a thirst for power and money have turned into shrews both in the family and at work.
“And men allowed this to happen,” she said. “I think things will get even worse.”
Uzhova said young women holding official positions were rude to the elderly, while the elderly lashed out at everyone.
She said mothers neglected their children, who turned into scornful adults, while fathers left punishment of their offspring to their wives.
