Switzerland said today that it expelled a Soviet diplomat for spying and that Moscow responded by ordering a Swiss Embassy official to leave the Soviet capital.

Vladimir Khorochilov, a first secretary at the Soviet Embassy in Bern, was ordered to leave after authorities found he had engaged in economic and political espionage, the Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office said. Today, the Soviet Foreign Ministry told the Swiss Embassy in Moscow that its first secretary, Erich Pirchner, must leave.
