“Today” show senior producer Marty Kaplan will succeed Steve Friedman as executive producer of the morning show, NBC has announced. Friedman announced last week that he is leaving “Today” after eight years as executive producer to pursue television production outside the network, perhaps with the new company headed by former NBC President Grant Tinker. Kaplan inherits the mantle of “Today” with the show at the top of its game. Friedman has been widely credited with bringing the show to its consistent No. 1 position in the morning ratings, but Kaplan noted he was there, too, having been senior producer since 1982.
