HESTON WILL ATTEND TRIBUTE TO REMEMBER OSCAR WINNERS

Andy Friedenberg, president of the Visual Arts Foundation, recently announced his “final lineup” for an Academy Award retrospective, starting June 22 at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art. A recent addition to the cast of stars and experts attending the series is actor Charlton Heston.

Robert Wise, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will attend opening night for the showing of “West Side Story.” Wise won the Oscar for best director for his work in the film.

Karl Malden will attend June 29, with “A Streetcar Named Desire,” for which he was named best supporting actor.

Linda Hunt, who is starring in the La Jolla Playhouse’s “The Matchmaker” through July 4, will show “The Year of Living Dangerously” on July 6. Hunt was selected best supporting actress for her performance, in which she played a man.

After one week off, the retrospective resumes July 20, with Heston showing “Ben Hur.” He was named best actor for his performance.

On July 27, Louise Fletcher will show “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” for which she was named best actress.

And on Aug. 3, the retrospective closes with a look at the technical end of making a movie. Walter Murch will show “Apocalypse Now,” for which he won an Oscar for best achievement in sound.

A UC San Diego Extension course is also being offered in connection with the retrospective.
