Monterey Park : Police Chief Files Claim
The City Council has referred a $500,000 claim for damages by Police Chief Jon Elder to a city-retained insurance adjuster, who is expected to reject the claim.
Elder, who has been on paid leave since August for stress, alleges in the six-page claim that Councilman Barry Hatch released confidential information about him at a May 13 public meeting.
The information dealt with Elder’s earlier statements to a doctor about the city’s attempts to get him to turn in his city-issued weapon and vehicle.
The filing a claim is a formality that typically precedes a formal lawsuit against a city.
