Police in Panama battled thousands of protesters, who threw rocks, beat pots and pans and yelled “Get them out!” in the second day of street demonstrations to demand the ouster of the country’s military leaders. Riot police fired tear gas and tore down barricades put up by the protesters in Panama City, the capital. No official figures were available on the number arrested or injured. The protests followed allegations that the military strongman, Brig. Gen. Manuel A. Noriega, was involved in the death of his predecessor, Gen. Omar Torrijos; ordered the killing of an opposition leader, and helped rig the 1984 presidential election.
