13 Charged in Camp Riot on West Bank
Thirteen Jewish settlers from the occupied West Bank were charged Friday with taking part in a riot at a Palestinian refugee camp near Bethlehem last week.
Dozens of settlers went on a rampage at the Dheisheh camp after Palestinian youths there stoned a passing Israeli bus, breaking the jaw of a pregnant woman from the Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron.
Police asked that six defendants remain in jail throughout court proceedings on grounds they might stage a new raid. They face charges of firing at inhabited buildings, disobeying army orders and attacking soldiers.
The seven other defendants, freed on bail, were charged with demonstrating without a permit and throwing stones. Police confiscated their passports.
