High Pay, Low Quality

Share

Your May 24 article, “Who Gets the Most Pay--Compensation for Executives Reflects Turbulence in the Corporate World,” has answered a lot of my questions about the state of local businesses.

Among the California companies that pay their executives outrageous salaries are these:

- A bank I had to leave because the underpaid, untrained tellers could never answer my questions or provide the most basic information or services.

- A retail chain whose checkout clerks can’t add, subtract, operate the archaic cash registers or, sometimes, speak basic English.

- A nursing home operation whose care standards are so dismal that its name triggers an hour of horror stories at any gathering of the elderly.

These companies should be plowing money back into operations, not siphoning it into the pockets of these do-nothings.
