Assemblyman Bruce Bronzan (D-Fresno) was commended for saving the life of a choking restaurant patron March 27. Director Ken Kizer of the state Department of Health Services said in a letter of commendation that Bronzan was lunching with several others at downtown Sacramento’s Broiler Steak House when Michael Genest, a member of the group, began choking. “Bronzan quickly recognized the problem and then calmly proceeded to perform the Heimlich maneuver, followed by back blows, and thereby successfully dislodged the food causing obstruction of Mr. Genest’s airway,” Kizer said. Bronzan also received an American Red Cross life-saving medal.
