A moderate earthquake rattled pictures off walls in southeastern Missouri but apparently caused no other damage, officials said. No injuries were reported. The quake, which registered 4.1 on the Richter scale, occurred at 4:17 p.m. and was centered about five miles southwest of New Madrid, Mo., said scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colo. It was felt in New Madrid, Kennett and Portageville, in the state’s bootheel, and across the Mississippi River in Kentucky. An expert at St. Louis University said the temblor was not related to the 5.0 quake that hit Wednesday in southeastern Illinois and which was felt in 15 states and in Ontario, Canada.
