Anti-Slip Tape Helps Prevent Falls, Skids
My admiration for the products of 3M knows few bounds, as regular readers of this column know. This is an innovative company, producing quality products that fill a real need, in factories right here in the United States.
One product of the St. Paul-based firm’s Household Products Division that has dozens of uses around the house and yard is Scotch Anti-Slip Tape.
It’s available in three grades, according to Alfred A. DeCicco of 3M’s New York office: Heavy duty (black), medium duty (grey) and light duty (white).
All three kinds can be used on ladders and stairs, with the heavy-duty black tape best suited for outdoor steps, playground equipment, walkways and similar uses, DeCicco said. He said that the mineral surface tape--a lot like permanent sandpaper--lasts a long time: “I used the medium-duty lengths for my unfinished wooden basement steps about seven years ago and there is not a sign of wear yet. These steps are used constantly.”
Scotch Anti-Slip Tape comes with an adhesive, self-sticking backing in rolls one-inch wide and 48 and 96 inches long and in bulk rolls one, two and four inches wide for big users.
What’s new in kitchens and bathrooms? Plenty, according to Mike Hartstein of GMA Kitchen & Bath Design Center, 2327 Federal Ave., near Pico and Barrington in West Los Angeles.
Representatives from more than 30 manufacturers will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday to show new products, including granite-like Corian to supplement the existing shades, a three-panel tub enclosure that has a larger opening and is less claustrophobic, new cabinets, European-style faucets and many other products.
“As for trends, virtually all the bathtubs we sell these days have whirlpool jets built in,” Hartstein said. “The manufacturers are coordinating everything, knowing that remodeling is strong virtually everywhere.”
A partial list of manufacturers represented at GMA’s 1987 trade show includes: Kohler, American Standard, Moen, Eljer, Amglas Shower Doors, Corian by DuPont, WoodMode, Harden, Avonite, Artistic Brass, Elkay, Hydro Systems, Vanity Flair and Steamwhirl.
Kitchen designers from the Kitchen Specialist, a Westwood-based showroom owned by Michael Goldberg, will also be on hand both days, Hartstein said.
California Kitchens Inc. has leased 12,993 square feet of space in Glendale’s Grand Central Business Centre for its headquarters and warehouse, a move that will free up at least 4,000 square feet of additional showroom space in the company’s building at 2305 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank.
That’s the word from Larry Baron, president of California Kitchens. The entire Alameda Avenue building--about 12,000 square feet in all--is currently being remodeled into a new showcase for appliances and cabinets, he said. The company has just added the WoodMode cabinet line and plans to expand into bathrooms next year, he said.
