Choreographer Maurice Bejart and his Twentieth Century Ballet are to leave the Belgian National Opera, the Belgian government said Sunday. The ministry for French language education, which sponsored the ballet, said minister Antoine Duquesne had received a telephone call from Bejart saying he would not renew his contract when it expires at the end of this month. Bejart, now in Leningrad, will take the company to Lausanne, Switzerland. The ministry said Bejart wrote to Duquesne recently demanding more autonomy for his company and a budget separate from that of the National Opera.
