McEnroe Out of Wimbledon
John McEnroe has withdrawn from the Wimbledon tennis championships beginning June 22, it was announced today.
“There is no reason for me to come to Wimbledon unless I’m 100% fit,” McEnroe said in a telex to Wimbledon organizers. This will be the second consecutive year that three-time winner McEnroe has missed the tournament he used to dominate. He stayed home from Wimbledon last year in the midst of a six-month break from tennis to be with Tatum O’Neal for the birth of their first child. They expect their second child in September.
