Iwo Jima Card Made in Japan Evokes Irony

WASHINGTON —
A postcard showing a photo of the Iwo Jima Memorial and sold at a Senate gift shop represents the ultimate symbol of America’s trade problems, a senator said Tuesday.
The card was printed in Japan.
“Talk about discouraging,” Sen. Robert Kasten (R-Wis.), said in a statement. “We thought we knew which side won that battle . . . but now we know who’s really winning.”
He suggested that Senate gift shops stop selling imported cards.
More than 6,000 Americans and 20,000 Japanese died in the struggle for the tiny island.
