A small ferry capsized Tuesday in eastern India, and at least 35 people were missing and feared drowned, the Press Trust of India reported.

The domestic news agency said that the vessel, carrying about 60 people, overturned in the Brahmani River near Cuttack, 800 miles southeast of New Delhi in Orissa state.

The boat was on its way from Patrapol to Sorishpada when it developed technical problems and capsized in mid-stream, the news agency said. A rescue team managed to save 25 people, but officials feared that at least 35 missing passengers--mostly women and children--had drowned.
