Suggestions that the the San Diego Padres are still a lame duck team were denied by Joan Kroc, who says her commitment to remain as owner extends beyond the end of the year and indefinitely into the future.

“I’m a born-again owner and those people stay pretty fervent,” she said.

That represents a change in stance since she announced last month that the proposed sale of the club to George Argyros had been canceled. She said at the time that she would keep the club until the end of the year and reevaluate.
