Van Nuys Bowler 3rd in PBA Tournament
Eric Forkel of Van Nuys moved up from seventh to third place Tuesday with a 7,784 score after the fifth round of the $125,000 Kessler Professional Bowlers Association Open.
David Ozio of Vidor, Texas, increased his lead to 120 pins Tuesday. Ozio, who has led all but the first round of the event, knocked down 7,931 pins to pace the bowlers after 34 games.
Randy Pedersen of Santa Maria used a tournament-best match play record of 11-5 to move into second place with a pinfall of 7,811. Pedersen, a three-time PBA titlist and the only two-time winner this year, had a 27-pin advantage over Forkel.
Rounding out the top five were Rusty Greiner of Richmond, Calif., and John Forst of Woodridge, Ill. Greiner, who like Forkel is looking for his first pro title, felled 7,765 pins. Forst, who won a PBA title in 1984, was 25 pins behind Greiner with a 7,740 total.
