Mercedes-Benz of North America is recalling some of its 1985 diesel engine cars for replacement of an emissions control device and says it will stop installing that device at the end of the 1987 model year.

The auto maker is recalling about 9,000 300D, 300CD, 300TD and 300SD models with turbocharged five-cylinder engines to replace a trap-oxidizer device, company President Walter Bodack said in a statement Tuesday.
