U.S. and 4 NATO Allies to Begin War Games
The United States and four other North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies will conduct a small military exercise in Iceland starting today, the Pentagon announced.
The exercise, code-named Northern Viking 87, will include about 350 military personnel from the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway, the Pentagon said.
The exercise, the latest in a series staged every two years, will extend through June 26. It will include maneuvers by a small defense force along with “a simulated bomb threat to test emergency reaction procedures, a rapid runway repair, emergency refueling operations and a mass casualty drill.”
