The Marine Corps filed an additional charge of unauthorized absence against Douglas G. Beane, the enlisted man who spent the last 17 years living in Australia after deserting from his unit in Vietnam. Beane, who is jailed at the Quantico, Va., Marine Base, returned to the United States voluntarily on June 9 in hopes of visiting his parents, including an ill father.
