Seven American police chiefs are in Israel for an eight-day visit to exchange ideas on police techniques and to learn how Israel controls terrorism, a spokeswoman for a Jewish organization said Wednesday.

The police officers from Houston, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, St. Louis, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and St. Petersburg, Fla., arrived in Israel on Monday, said spokeswoman Roberta Fahn of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.

She said the visit will include meetings with members of Jerusalem’s bomb squad, agents in Israel’s terror control unit and Police Minister Chaim Bar-Lev.

The police chiefs also are touring northern Israel and Jewish historical sites, including Masada, where Jewish zealots committed suicide rather than be taken prisoner by invading Romans.
