Reputed mob boss Nicodemo (Little Nicky) Scarfo and 27 associates were charged with running an international drug smuggling and distribution network in what the government called an attack on the “lifeblood” of organized crime. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the 46-count indictment in Philadelphia charging Scarfo and others operated a drug ring that imported and distributed phenyl-2-propane, P2P, used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, or speed. Scarfo was being held in the Philadelphia Detention Center after a conviction for extortion. He also faces murder charges in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
