‘Tear Down the Berlin Wall’
President Reagan is a fine one to lecture about openness. He has not been open with the Congress, the American people, or the world.
I think that if he had his wish and had the Berlin Wall torn down he would have fits worrying about all those communists running loose. Remember they are the same ones he predicts will overrun our nation’s southern borders, and take a strong hold in the Persian Gulf.
If he is so concerned about “freedom,” what about the South Korean, Panamanian and El Salvadoran citizens? We support or manipulate governments that suppress their own citizens as long as the leaders are not dreaded communists. This is not promoting “liberalization” and “freedom.”
If we supported decent leaders for the citizens, they would not have revolted in the Philippines, Iran or Nicaragua. If people are suppressed they will seek an alternative, which is often (as in Iran) not a very good alternative.
Yes, Mr. Reagan, we should promote true “liberalization” and “freedom.”
