Vandals torched two cars belonging to Palestinian journalist Hanna Siniora, who sent shock waves through Israel two weeks ago by announcing he would be the first Arab to run for the Jerusalem City Council. Siniora, editor of the East Jerusalem newspaper Al Fajr, said the vandals also painted a slogan on a wall near his house proclaiming in Arabic: “Jerusalem will only be the capital of Palestine.” It was signed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a splinter group of the Palestine Liberation Organization. The PLO has condemned Siniora’s candidacy as a sign of acceptance of Jewish rule.
