Countywide : Revised Layoff Figures Presented to Supervisors

Share

The number of layoffs likely to be required under the fiscal 1987-88 county budget was trimmed Monday from 269 to 235, with the main beneficiary of the new figures being the Health Care Agency.

County Administrative Officer Larry Parrish presented revised figures to the Board of Supervisors calling for 28 Health Care Agency layoffs, rather than the 41 proposed last week. The new figures also call for 29 Health Care Agency vacancies to be left unfilled, rather than the 41 proposed last week.

County supervisors are scheduled to tentatively adopt a proposed $1.1-billion budget Wednesday for the fiscal year starting July 1.

Formal hearings on the budget will start late next month or early in August, with final adoption of the spending blueprint coming several weeks later.

The new figures showed the numbers of layoffs and unfilled vacancies for the Social Services Agency unchanged at 92 and 2, respectively. The numbers for the Probation Department also were unchanged, at 68 proposed layoffs and 30 vacancies to be left unfilled. Other departments will have fewer furloughs.

Aides said Parrish and his assistants who are drawing up the budget did not elaborate on the figures.
