Funeral services will be held today at Palm Desert Memorial Park in Palm Springs for Phillip Weintraub, a former major league baseball player who died Sunday at 79.
Weintraub played for the New York Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies from 1933 through 1945. A first baseman-outfielder, he had a batting average of .351 for the Giants in 1934. He had a lifetime average of .295.
