About 80 Jewish twins who survived the gruesome genetic experiments of Nazi death camp doctor Josef Mengele will receive compensation from West Germany, their Israeli lawyer said. Under an agreement signed last week, attorney Arye Ben-Tov said that the twins, most of whom now live in Israel, will each receive $11,000 to $14,000 for the physical and mental anguish they suffered at the hands of the man known as Auschwitz’s “Angel of Death.” He said Bonn had reconsidered a 1985 decision in which it rejected their claims on grounds that some of the twins had already received compensation.
