Santa Ana : Burglar Wounds Man, Then Steals His Car

Share

A Santa Ana man was shot and seriously wounded at his apartment Tuesday night after he surprised a burglar--who later returned to steal the victim’s car when he was taken to get medical care, police said.

Ricardo Gonzalez, 30, was treated by paramedics for gunshot wounds in the chest and arm and transferred to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where he was listed Wednesday in serious condition.

Gonzalez, Juan Miranda, 24, and Rosolia Rodriguez, 21, returned at 11:45 p.m. to their apartment in the 1900 block of South Flower Street and apparently interrupted a burglary, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.

The burglar, brandishing a gun, chased the three out the front door and into their car, firing twice and hitting Gonzalez. The gunman then fled.

Miranda and Rodriguez helped the wounded Gonzalez from the car, and the three went for medical aid. While they were gone, the gunman returned and stole Gonzalez’s car, the keys for which were still in the ignition, Thomas said.

Police later recovered the abandoned car at 1800 S. Olive Street, about a block away.

Police are still looking for the gunman, Thomas said, adding that nothing apparently was taken from the apartment.
