A 19-year-old college wrestler was paralyzed after a tavern brawl and parking-lot scuffle with bouncers, authorities said today.

Philip Rangel III of Greeley was reported in critical condition at Poudre Valley Memorial Hospital in Fort Collins, where he was flown by helicopter after the Wednesday night incident. Hospital spokesman Mike Vogl said Rangel suffered two broken and displaced bones in his neck and “appears to be quadriplegic.”

Rangel was ready for his sophomore year at the University of Northern Colorado, where he wrestled in the 118-pound class.
