Cedrick Hardman, former San Francisco 49ers defensive end, pleaded no contest to resisting arrest and was sentenced to 10 days in the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana, his attorney, Ron Kreber, said.

Hardman, 38, also had his probation on a former conviction for driving with a suspended license extended for three more years by Judge Pamela Iles in South Orange County Municipal Court. In additon, he must pay restitution to police officer Debbie Chang.

Chang was injured last Sept. 20 while trying to arrest Hardman on suspicion of drug possession. She is still recuperating from the injuries.

Chang and another officer stopped Hardman and asked to search his car after they spotted cocaine in Hardman’s briefcase.

He was suspended from his job as football coach at Laguna Beach High School three days after the arrest, but after he completed a monthlong drug rehabilitation program, the school district’s board of trustees permitted him to finish the season.
